The
Greensville
County Public School System provides a comprehensive
educational program for children of the area from pre-school
through grade 12. Under a contractual agreement, the children
of the City of Emporia are educated in the county school
system. The system serves approximately 2,700 students.
At the pre-school and elementary levels, pupil/teacher ratios are lower
than the state average, affording students
more individual attention from the teaching staff. Pre-school development
programs include the “Early Child Find” program, which identifies
children with physical, mental or emotional handicaps at an early level.
At the secondary level, pupil/teacher ratios are lower than the state
average, and the curriculum is based on both academics and technical
education. Students participate in a varied educational setting, including
college preparatory and advanced placement courses.
Greensville County Schools are a participating member of the Southside
Regional Governor’s School. Local students are served at St. Paul’s
College and the Alberta location of Southside Virginia Community College.
A dual-enrollment program with Southside Virginia Community College also
allows students to gain college credit in English, political science,
psychology and criminal justice.
Students from Emporia-Greensville who wish to attend private schools
have several options, including Brunswick Academy in nearby Brunswick
County and Faith Baptist in Greensville County.
